During the first week in February we were learning about Community Helpers. For Science, our kids got the chance to see the importance of brushing their teeth! The children brushed eggs that had been soaked in soda or coffee. Check them out! They saw that using toothpaste makes a BIG difference! The next Community Helper we got play a part in was a doctor! Our kids got to make their own x-ray cookies! Look what a great job we did with making our backbone and ribs! Firefighters! The next Community Helper was a group of visitors! We were lucky and got a great group from the Hicks Rd/Hurt Rd Cobb County Fire Station...and they pulled out all of the tricks for the kids! We all had a blast! Here we got see how much equipment each firefighter has to wear! And we got to get in the fire truck and check things out! Did you know that firefighters use special cameras that can sense body heat to find people when a building is on fire?! We got to see one of those cameras too! We even got to practice being a fire fighter with a water extinguisher...WATCH OUT!! Here's our whole group at the end of our visit! Our next Community Helper to visit was Officer Janke DON'T TAKE US AWAY! WE'LL PLAY NICELY!! We even got to get in the driver's seat! Checking out Officer Janke's safety equipment! Thank you to Officer Janke and the Cobb County Police Department for coming to visit us! Time to test out being a mailman! For our Science/Math Center, our students got to put different objects into boxes and then guessed which would weigh more. Our students had to use their thinking caps to figure out even if a box was smaller, it could weigh more! They even used a scale to test this theory out! Happy Birthday Ms. Heather! There were not a lot of kids to celebrate our sweet Occupational Therapist's birthday! But we definitely loved throwing our favorite OT a party! Look at that party animal!! Q is for Quilt Well, sickness made its way through both preschool classes the week before Valentine's Day and at the end of the day on Friday, we had two left! Here are our two making their quilts for the letter Q! For a special group activity this month, our Occupational Therapist, Ms. Heather had the kids taste test different foods and determine whether they were sweet, bitter, sour, spicy, or salty. Some of the foods were tasty...some were not! We couldn't let a week dedicated to wonderful school counselors like ours go by without acknowledging them! We love Mrs. Grimsley and Dr. Verner so much! They are always there to give us a helping hand! This past week we have been learning about the letter H and to wrap up all of our Community Helpers, we also got the chance to be a builder! Our kids were asked to build a house during our cooking activity and then our favorite part...it was time to eat it!! We hope that all of our friends have a wonderful and restful break! We're looking forward to seeing everyone return! Check back on March 15th for our next update!
